Recovery, as defined by SAMHSA in it's national consensus statement, is a journey of healing and transformation to live a meaningful life within our communities while striving to achieve our full potential.

As we blaze the trail to recovery, what are some of our key landmarks as well as landmines? How can we ensure our path is true and our bearings are straight? What is the role of leadership and how can we strengthen and support one another on our travels?

Paolo del Vecchio will explore these and other questions as we set our course and travel along this journey.

Price: $20.00

Yvonne Smith weaves a history of Alternatives with her own first conference experience.

An inspiring speaker, Yvonne acknowledges that years ago many of our seasoned leaders got their first taste of the consumer movement in large asylums. She suggests peers use action with ethics to stand together. Smith offers a rousing conclusion to this year's conference. She asks us to remember our past with our eye to the future; blazing this trail for ourselves, honoring our Alternative ancestors.

Jubel Perkins sings:

The Buffalo Nation Song (for the buffalos and those who lived by them) Lakota Nation, My grandma told me a story how in the old days buffalo would circle around a hurt herd member to protect the wounded one. That's how we as human beings should treat each other

The Turtle Medicine Song (because turtles are a medicine symbol) Kickapoo Nation song. As we break loose from negative habits and life styles, each time one more layer of hardness is removed from our Hearts, our Spirits, so that we can regain that heart of a child once more. Learning to feel good about ourselves and about Life, and learning to have hope for the future

The Spirit in the Sky Song (for asking the Great Spirit into our lives). When the dominate society came here all of our culture and ceremony was taken away, so we lost that spiritual connection. We have been like tumbleweeds in the wind without our own culture lost. This song encourages us to seek out the old ways, to be positive, to be tolerant of one another, to look at the heart of a person rather than the color of their skin.
